[Discuss] buildroot does not build

In the past I have used buildroot successfully,
but now I cannot get it to work.

In particular, I get the following error:

  checking whether build environment is sane... configure: error: ls -t appears to fail.  Make sure there is not a broken alias in your environment
  configure: error: newly created file is older than distributed files!
  Check your system clock

As far as I can tell, ls -t works, there seem to be no broken aliases
and the clock looks OK.

Has anyone else run into this problem
and found a solution?
