Some of it is set in stone.  Some of it, you will be told is set in stone but really isn't.  And some of it is completely subjective and up to the judgement of the TSA person (or whatever they're called in the country in question) who's on duty that day.

I have certainly been able to bring electronics, knives, foods, perfumes, batteries, and such, in checked luggage.  You should expect it to be x-ray'd and frozen.  So it's a good idea to backup first.

I would suggest calling and checking websites in advance.  Ask a travel agent, who will at least know the right website to check for the official rules.  The rules change daily.  And be aware that the rules are subject to interpretation.  Sometimes in your favor, sometimes not.
