One of IBM's major selling points for their DB2 offering was that it 
assured consistent
date calculations for those who stayed in the fold. One of their major 
FUD tactics was
telling potential buyers of other products that they would have to redo 
their code base to
get the same date calculations that IBM delivered "for free".
