You didn't take one look at that link and think "this is an SEO trap"?
Because I did. Then I spent another 15 seconds looking at the manual, which
says that the printer supports parallel and USB.

OP, can your friend drop a couple hundy on a new printer? If so, I've had
great luck with Brother, and they have this:
