Agreed. At a previous company I ran things on Samba, and also ran Zimbra
instead of Exchange.  Honestly, at the end of the day, AD just works,
and Exchange Online is pretty good too.  Also, if you're running lots of
enterprise software you'll find that when an app says it supports "LDAP"
it really means "Active Directory."  If you are supporting a fleet of
Windows machines, it's going to be less of a headache to run AD.
