FYI, for those driving to MIT, I learned from my experience of attending
the Boston Perl Monger's meeting at E51 last week:

Probably the closest pay lot is in the basement of 1 Memorial Drive
(https://goo.gl/maps/vkmzK47mELt). (That's the building where the
Microsoft NERD Center is located.) After hours parking there is a flat
$12 (cash or credit).

The building is only accessible from the outbound side of Memorial
Drive, so if you are commuting from the West, you need to loop around.
Take Memorial Drive inbound, take the same left you would have normally
taken for Wadsworth Street heading for E51, but use that cut-over to
U-turn. Now heading outbound on Memorial Drive, take a right on Ames
St., take a right on Main St., and take a right onto Memorial Drive in
front of a large orange detour sign.

The entrance to the garage seems to be poorly marked. No obvious
signage. It's the first driveway on the right, past the building. Take
the driveway to the end and the garage is on the right.

The lobby of the building has a kiosk to pay for parking, but the
building closes at 9 PM. A guard happened to let me in, but it might be
simpler to just walk to the main garage door, and pay at the exit gate
kiosk. (Plus, I believe the garage is staffed 24/7.)

If the weather was bad, this garage would be your best bet, as you only
have to be outside for the length of one building. You can enter MIT via
the Sloan Building on Memorial, go to the 2nd floor, and take the
pedestrian bridge over to E51.

Alternatively:

suggested a garage at 350 Kendall St. for $9:

It's a few more blocks to walk.

Also, I observed a few empty spaces on Ames St., and supposedly
on-street meters are free after 8 PM. (Once school resumes I wouldn't
count on any spaces being available.)
