How old were the power supplies? Are they usually kept powered up?
I've had several power supplies die upon their next power cycle due to
bad capacitors. Especially ones made in the 2000-2010 timeframe. The
fix is fairly easy--replace the capacitors.

A surge protector or UPS won't help with this problem, other than to
delay it until the next actual power cycle.
