[HH] motion-activated hardware hackery

Hello Hardware Hackers,
  I am wondering if anyone has played with motion-activated cameras, for security use or for child monitoring.  I am interested in what is out there that one can use to build projects (i.e. does not require software from a subscription service).

  No plans right now, just curious to hear what's possible and what people have done.
