1) Tangential, but perhaps of interest

2) I was asked for advice on bringing wifi to a public housing 
development in the Boston area. I'm inclined to recommend the 
Linux/openwrt-based ROBIN/open-mesh <open-mesh.com>. It looks as 
if a central run of conduit, with Ethernet to each floor to 
support a gateway, from top to bottom of the 8-story building 
would be very useful. Someone recommended that the concrete 
floors should be reviewed via x-ray

prior to any drilling.

I called a company that does GPR that said it'd cost about 
$2,000. Anyone here happen to have relevant experience/advice... 
able to suggest contractors well-positioned to do either the 
drilling and/or radar/x-ray?
