A hackable NAS for $30...if you don't mind it being pink:

Requires a USB (2.0 supported) drive for storage, and has a GB Ethernet
interface.

(I'm assuming, but have not confirmed, that this model runs Linux and is
hackable as other Pogoplug models have been. Here a 2009-era article
