Make Magazine did a full issue looking at 15 different printers
and talking about all things 3D printer related:

I have a copy of the issue. It's got a lot of info in it.

Reading through the Make Magazine reviews,
the main issue seems to be print quality.
Pretty much all the models reviewed had
some issue or another with the test prints.

If you're doing "art" pieces, they're fine.
But if you're making mechanical components,
I got the impression that they're not quite
there yet to print high precision parts
that fit together, rotate, slide, mesh, etc.

If you don't need high quality or a large volume,
I'd say we'll see that pretty soon.
