wnn recompling under slackerware

I have been having poor luck with this list (linux-sig ...)
lately, but since I missed the July meeting (I had
to give a talk the next day) ...

Has anyone managed to recompile wnn successfully
on their linux system (as opposed to precooked
binaries in the je distrib)? I have tried various
and sundry modifications to the Makefiles and
Imakefiles but I end up in a morass of errors. If your
experience was "gee, it just compiled out of the box"
I would like to know precisely what box you have.

Experiences with building mule would also be
appreciated.

Thanks.
