Linus Torvalds, from Finland, comes to Boston to discuss his revolutionary
operating system-Linux. Linux is a UNIX type operating system that supports
standard software including the X-Windows graphical user interface and a
complete runtime and development system. The key to Linux is that it makes
computers multi-user and provides a multi-tasking environment on individual
desktops that was previously only available on expensive workstations. Also,
Linux is freeware.

The BCS currently has an increasingly popular Linux Group started by John
Abreau. John has been instrumental in using Linux to create the BCS Home Page
on the World Wide Web. Linus Torvalds will be in the United States for a
limited time. You won't want to miss meeting him and discovering how his
operating system can make computers more powerful and user-friendly than ever.
