Meeting Topic: "Flying Pings and Other Things" -- A Beginner's Clinic Featured Happening: Live! -- A Typical Linux Installation from Start to Finish, Using RedHat's CD-ROM as the Sample Distribution. --->>>> An Added Bonus! A Live Internet Feed! <<<< --- Who: Boston Computer Society Linux/Unix User's Group Date: 20 March 1996, Wednesday Time: 7:00 pm. Place: MIT, Building 6, Room 120 (Eastman Labs.) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Linux is a UNIX-like operating system built around POSIX standards. From its inception less than five years ago, it was developed over the Internet by a group of people who (for the most part) have never seen each other, and now runs on an (estimated) 1,000,000 computer systems. The operating system (and the source code for it) is free to anyone who wants it. This is probably the largest development project ever accomplished using the Internet. For the latest information on this talk, and directions, please see the URL: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ >>>> http://www.bcs.org/Groups/linux/linux.html or call the BCS Waltham Office at (617)290-5700. ************************************************************ * Coming on 17 April ----->> Linux and Commercial UNIX: * Adversaries or Bedfellows? * MIT Bldg 4 Room 163 @ 7:00pm Can They co-exist? ************************************************************
