First, thanks to JABR and Jerry for the quick responses. second here's an update to your suggestions. Jerry - 1. I looked at CMOS. - everything is fine, I keep a screen shot and it hasn't changed. JABR - 1. I used a system disk to boot 2. called fdisk and found the following info fdisk choice [4] - display partiontion information no partiontions choice [5] - change current fixed disk drive disk mbytes free usage 1 504 504 0% 2 1221 1221 0% conclusion: the drives are seen with fdisk but the information (master boot record? ) is not there. My best guess is to try and run rmv /mbr. What do you think? mark j. soule btw, I've promised my wife a brief resite after the hubbub the last month.
