Last night I rebuilt the kernel as a monolithic kernel, and was able to boot successfully from floppy and from hard disk. The specific solution was to build the aic7xxx driver into the kernel. The other reason for the monolithic kernel was that either I failed to configure the ne2000 driver or there was some problem in the way I had build the modular kernel. I would like to thank those who came up with solutions and clues. +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ Jerry Feldman Digital Unix Development Environment Digital Equipment Corp.
