My cable modem has an AUI connector with an AUI<->BNC >tranceiver. The newer LanCity modems have a 10baseT jack. Aha! thanks - that clears up my confusion about the hub question. I'm guessing they switched over to speaking only 10baseT because the HW is a bit cheaper, and maybe also to avoid the adapter-recognition problem.
