sane devices

-------------- next part --------------

subj: sane devices

i have installed sane on my desktop (running redhat linux 5.0, kernel
2.0.32), and whereas the basic sane functionality seems to be there,
my scanner device is not seen by the program. i.e. scanimage -L gives
only pnm:0 and pnm:1.

the kernel on my desktop doen't have inherent scsi support, and dmesg
accordingly finds no devices initially. after running the module
installs, all is seemingly ok. i have only 2 scsi devices, a cdrom on
sr0 and the other (scanner) on sga. appended is the tail of the
initial dmesg, the module installs, and the tail of the final dmesg.

i removed /dev/scanner, leaving only sga, w/ major nr 21, and scanimage -L
still gave only pnm:[01]. putting in the link ln -s /dev/sga /dev/sanner
doesn't help. could there possibly be some part of sane that i have not
installed?
