Mark - >Is SCSI2 limited to eight devices? SCSI wide supports up to 15 devices (besides the adapter). >Any ideas for applications? I imagine this would be an excellent >fileserver for my local office .. Or possibly setup some kind of >proxy to increase the speed that people "access" the web? You can set up RAID for very fast/reliable disk storage. To fully utilize this, you would need some disk intensive application like a database or software builds. >What would recommended SCSI2 fast-wide ISA or PCI adapters be? Do >the Adaptec's work well with linux? Lots of people are using Adaptec 2940<something> adapters successfully. However, there are persistent reports of problems, too. There are several versions of the driver. Each version breaks a small minority of the cards, and no one version of the driver works with all of them. The BusLogic BT958 has a good reputation. I have had very good luck with the two BT948 adapters I have (that's the narrow version). BusLogic was bought by Mylex a while back. - Jim Van Zandt - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
