Glenn Burkhardt wrote in a message to Mike Bilow: GB> This is definitely a problem. The 'link' LED's will light GB> up when you have a good connection between your network card GB> and the hub. Most hub's have link lamps, too. Althought your comment is correct in the context of the Intel EtherExpress Pro which was the subject of the posting, it is not generally true of all Ethernet cards any longer. In particular, firmware-dependent cards such as those based upon the DEC Tulip chipset (2104x) will NOT light their LEDs until and unless their firmware has been loaded successfully after power-on; prior to firmware load, they are just paperweights. -- Mike - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
