Keywords: Unix Linux Linux Distributions Software Development C/C++ BLU.ORG Topic: CodeWarrior for Red Hat Linux Presented by: Rick Grehan (rgrehan at top.monad.net) and Tom Thompson When: 19 May 1999, Wednesday Time: 7:00 p.m. Where: MIT Building 3-133 [Mass. Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA] Rick Grehan will be joined by Tom Thompson, also of Metrowerks. Tom and Rick will bring a laptop outfitted with RH Linux 5.2, and running the latest version of Metrowerks CodeWarrior for Red Hat Linux. We'll show the CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment, which provides visual development of C/C++ applications. (The CodeWarrior IDE runs in X Windows.) We'll have a sample application that we'll use to illustrate the capabilities of the integrated editor, search engine. We'll also show the IDE's project management features, and run through some compiles to demonstrate how the IDE automates builds, handles file dependencies, etc. Of course, they'll be happy to answer any questions about the product, as well as questions regarding future CodeWarrior products for Linux and any other Metrowerks products that people are interested in. About Rick Grehan (rgrehan at top.monad.net) Rick Grehan was technical director of BYTE Magazine's BYTE Labs, co-programmer of the BYTEmark benchmarks, and author of BYTE's "JAVATalk" column. We want to promote the awareness and use of Open Systems, and to educate the public and our members about Open Systems. Linux is a UNIX-like operating system built around POSIX standards. >From its inception less than eight years ago, it was developed over the Internet by a group of people who (for the most part) have never seen each other, and now runs on over (estimated) 4,000,000 computer systems. The operating system (and the source code for it) is free to anyone who wants it. It has been ported to at least the following platforms: Intel, SPARC, Alpha, MIPS, PPC, and M68K. This is probably the largest development project ever accomplished using the Internet.
