I would like to thank everyone who responded. While my original question was in terms of a distribuiton independent method, the intent was to have a Unix-wide method. Normally, when I put things out to the community, I may already know the answer, but I look for either confirmaiton that this is the right way, or caveats, or alternatives. Basically, I have been complaining about the way the configure scripts were written for one of the products I partially develop because it breaks every time I upgrade my Alpha Linux. After complaining for about 6 months, I finally got the "yeah, we need to fix this, suggest a better way". Currently, we have targets for Solaris (Intel and Sparc), Debian GNU/Linux, Red Hat Linux/Alpha. +------------------------------------------------------+ | Gerald Feldman <gaf at blu.org> | | Boston Computer Solutions and Consulting | | ICQ#156300 | | +------------------------------------------------------+ - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
