The main problem is compatible libraries. The dynamic runtime libraries need to be at a particular level, and I would guess that most vendors statically link their applications to avoid problems. Probably, none of these applications depend on particular kernel features, and most of the distributions are at the same kernel rev level anyway. - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
