As DSL starts to arrive in the area for personal subscribers, it would be nice to have ongoing discussions about the different services. One of the marketing ploys used by DSL vendors is guaranteed bandwidth where Cable Modem service is a shared bandwidth. I maintain that once it gets to the ISP, it's all shared on the ISP's backbone. All the tests I have run on my system to Mediaone, I have always been able to measure about 1.5Mbps download from M1X sites, with about 250-300Kbps upload. My wife recently was experiencing a problem uploading (eg. 50Kbps or less). I rebooted her cable modem and we were able to get just under 300Kbps uploading a jpeg to the web server.
