My default Apache config files have always come with the user directory setup commented out. Grep the conf files for public_html and you'll find the pertinent section pretty quickly. - I forget exactly which file it's in. I think the new way is to put everything in one file. Also, the on-line documentation usually comes with the server package as html. Looking it over is a good idea. Check the Restarting Apache section. You need'll to do this for your changes to take effect. Normally the Apache configuration files are in /etc/httpd/conf The UserDir directive is normally in srm.conf and the default setting is normally to the ~/public_html directory. I also suggest you look at the online documentation at http://www.apache.org. http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_userdir.html#userdir -- Jerry Feldman (HP On-Site Consultant) http://gbrweb.msd.ray.com/~gzf/ +-------------------------------------------------------+-----Note: ------+ | Raytheon Electronic Systems (W) (781)999-1837/1-1837 | My views may not| | Mail Stop: S3SG10 (F) (781)999-4030/1-4030 | reflect the | | 180 Hartwell Road (W) gzf at gbr.msd.ray.com | views of my | | Bedford, MA 01730-2498 (FWD:H+W) gaf at blu.org | employer. | +-------------------------------------------------------+-----------------+ - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored). -------------- next part -------------- Received: from ns.learningco.com ([198.112.0.7]) by mail.learningco.com with SMTP (IMA Internet Exchange 3.12) id 0000BD68; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 11:31:55 -0500 Received: by ns.learningco.com; id LAA10500; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 11:35:56 -0500 (EST) Received: from unknown(207.31.228.20) by ns.learningco.com via smap (V5.0) id xma010468; Thu, 2 Dec 99 11:35:40 -0500 Received: (from majordom at localhost) by tarnhelm.blu.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) id KAA10961 for discuss-outgoing; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 10:42:12 -0500 Received: from bos-gate3.raytheon.com (bos-gate3.raytheon.com [199.46.198.232]) by tarnhelm.blu.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id KAA10956 for <discuss at Blu.Org>; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 10:41:58 -0500 Received: from swlmail.msd.ray.com (swlmail.msd.ray.com [138.127.109.33]) by bos-gate3.raytheon.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id JAA02505 for <discuss at Blu.Org>; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 09:41:52 -0600 (CST) Received: from slpyjs.msd.ray.com (slpyjs.msd.ray.com [138.127.37.6]) by swlmail.msd.ray.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id KAA11360 for <discuss at Blu.Org>; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 10:41:43 -0500 (EST) Received: from gbr.msd.ray.com (gzf at gbrhpu.msd.ray.com [138.127.36.14]) by slpyjs.msd.ray.com (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id KAA19638 for <discuss at Blu.Org>; Thu, 2 Dec 1999 10:41:43 -0500 (EST) Message-ID: <38469336.D61FAB9F at gbr.msd.ray.com> Date: Thu, 02 Dec 1999 10:41:42 -0500 From: Jerry Feldman {75562} <gzf at gbrmail.msd.ray.com> Organization: Hewlett-Packard on site at Raytheon X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.7 [en] (X11; U; HP-UX B.11.00 9000/778) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 CC: discuss at Blu.Org Subject: Re: Home pages for regular users References: <19991202150251.15379.qmail at caesar.lynix.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-discuss at blu.org Precedence: bulk
