Dell Inspiron 5000

Today, Derek Martin gleaned this insight:

Well, I got it working (kinda) -- I downloaded the XFree 3.6 RPMs from
the redhat 6.2 beta directory, and installed them. I was messing with
displaying alternately to the display and a monitor and then it started to
work... Only problem is, it doesn't seem to initialize properly, and I
have to switch to monitor and back before it is displayed correctly. I
don't suppose anyone knows a way around this one?
