Value. The problem I am encountering is that between playing mp3s > on Xmms with the standard OSS output plugin and using "play (really > sox)," my pcm levels jump when switching from one to another. Often I I don't think this has much to do with the SB Live itself, but with the fact that some applications change the mixer settings. Many sound apps have their own sliders, and they tend to retain their last set values after you close them, and they will reset the volume to that setting when they start up. Quake is definitely an example of this. I don't think there's anything you can do about this. Sound apps written for either Gnome or KDE should go with the mixer settings set by their mixers, but applications not written for one of these DTE's tend to do their own thing, by virtue of the fact that historically Unix has had no mechanism to control the sound for all applications. -- Derek Martin System Administrator Mission Critical Linux martin at MissionCriticalLinux.com - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
