One way is to put the patch cluster on a different file system and use symlinks from /var or simply just mount it. Remember that your log files are on /var, and unless you rotate them, they can get quite large. Another solution is just junk the Sun and get a Compaq Wildfire. Compaq's Alpha processors are still the fastest CPUs in the world. Remember that /var contains /var/spool On 19 Apr 2000, at 14:05, John Malloy wrote: > > Thanks for the quick reply. > > Is there a way of freeing (adding) up space on /var, so the LARGE Sun patch > cluster can work? > > > Jerry Feldman wrote: > > > First, the permission of /var/tmp and /tmp should be 0777. > > RWX for everyone. > > Secondly, some software hard codes /tmp and /var/tmp and /usr/tmp. > > > > If you moved /var/tmp elsewhere, you should make sure it has the correct > > permissions. > > > > Also, files in /var/adm generally are read/write by root only. > > > > On 19 Apr 2000, at 13:20, John Malloy wrote: > > > > > > > > I have a Solaris 2.6 machine at work. > > > > > > We just rebooted and now are having a permission problem with the files. > > > > > > Some files were moved out of /var to free up some space for patches. > > > > > > I have a feeling that this caused the permission problem (especially > > > from /var/tmp). > > > > > > How does this work? > > > > > > Any suggestions? > > > > > > Thanks! > > > > > > -- > > > > > > John Malloy > > > jdm at world.std.com > > > - > > > Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with > > > "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the > > > message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored). > > > > Jerry Feldman <gaf at blu.org> > > Associate Director > > Boston Linux and Unix user group > > http://www.blu.org > > - > > Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with > > "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the > > message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored). > > -- > > John Malloy > jdm at world.std.com > > > - > Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with > "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the > message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored). -- Jerry Feldman Contractor, eInfrastructure Partner Engineering 508-467-4315 http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/linux/ Compaq Computer Corp. 200 Forest Street MRO1-3/F1 Marlboro, Ma. 01752 - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
