> Can't wait to see the new bugs Or just the incompatibilities. I tried installing SuSE 7.1 on a new system we received yesterday, which has an obscure Ethernet board. The driver wasn't included, so I did what I normally do, and checked the Network Driver web site, found the code for my board, and tried to compile it. No can do! The installation loaded a 2.4 kernel, but didn't load the kernel headers for the module library in use (but it did load them for 2.2.18, and a different version of 2.4. I tried to point the compiler to the 2.4 headers that didn't correspond to the module library in use, and there were tons of errors, and an aborted compilation. I gave up, and loaded Mandrake 7.2, which uses 2.2.17. It came with an older version of the driver that didn't work, but the latest edition compiled and is working now. So, anyone know how many 2.2 drivers will work with 2.4? Is there an easy way to convert? The fact that rtl8139 isn't even included in SuSE 7.1 makes me think that not all drivers are easily ported (or, there's just too many of them to get it done quickly). - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
