Intel Etherexpress PRO/10+ ISA 2.2.16 kernel eepro

Howdy -

Does anyone else us the intel etherexpress pro/10+  with kernel
2.2.14-2.2.16
and have it work well or found a solution to the problems?

I'm getting tens of carrier errors requiring me to reset my interface
(eth1) every few seconds.

dmesg shows 
eth1: XMT status = 0xc3b8
...
.. XMT status =0x0
...XMT status-0x8bc5
...
...
and ifconfig counts the carrier errors.

I've just bought some ISA nics on ebay, but
I'd rather get this fixed without replacing the hardware.
