i'm currently connecting to the net via an rcn cable modem, and having no trouble. as i'm going on vacation for a week or so, i am trying to set up a ppp connection, using pretty much the scripts given in the rcn linux reference on the net. the scripts seem to work ok in that i get remote and local ip addresses shown in /var/log messages, and ifconfig shows ppp0 up and running. BUT when i attempt to do anything, such a ping or telnet into some host, i get these peculiar DENY messages in /var/log/messages. AND nothing works.
