Person needs help

I am new toLinux and am having diffucilty mounting and using 2 CD Rom
drives.  One is the basic CD Rom drive the other is a CD Read and Write
drive. I am using the instruction manual "Red Hat fast and easy"  but  I
can't get the drives to "mount".  It would appear that I need one on
one  help for this process. or can some one supply me with help. I also
have the text "Running Linux" 3rd edition by  Welsh, Dalheimer, and
Kaufman. perhaps I could attend a Linux course that is available this
fall semester.  I am a student a U-MASS Boston.  Thanks for your help.
