-------- Patrich commented: You switch color depth with ctrl - alt - plus. There's an article on Xfree86 4.0 on linuxtoday. Since I read this a few days ago, I've tried it on an assortment of linux boxes. I was unable to discover any cases in which it had any effect on the color at all. In most cases, it was simply ignored. In a few cases, a few windows such as xterm bleeped at me in complaint. But never any visible change in what was on the screen. It does sound like something that could be useful in the ongoing puzzle of how to make things on the screen more readable despite the fervent efforts of all sorts of software (even ls ;-) to choose colors with minimal contrast. So how does it work? - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
