Hello, I know not all PCI based modems are win-modems because i've used severial of them with no problems under Linux/FreeBSD. The 3Com USR 5610 (i believe) Internal 56K PCI Fax Modem works fine in linux, infact it was probably the best internal modem I ever had. I believe it also reasonably priced =<$80. I was using it for about 2 years prior to getting DSL. You would have to set it up manually using setserial (like "setserial /dev/ttyS2 irq 5 port 0xd800 autoconfig" for example) by digging through "cat /proc/pci" and such. The link with specifications for it on 3com was http://www.3com.com/client/pcd/products/prod-faxmod5610-int.html but it is long since gone, I'm sure with a little searching that the correct link could probably be recovered with no problem. -Hope this helps, Michael MacDonald macado at phoenixdsl.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Chuck Young <chy at genuity.com> To: <discuss at Blu.Org> Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2001 2:43 PM Subject: Modem question > Greetings, > > It's been so long since I have bought a modem that I don't know much about > them anymore.
