tape back up

hey BLU'ers
Just wondering what software/scripts people use in here for local tape
back ups. Right now I am running dumpall(for complete system snapshots)
and a few shell/cron scripts(for dailey DB backups) but
I would like a nicer way to administer this since my data dumps are all
of a sudden changing weekly..
Also I would prefer open source.
