On a hopefully more helpful note, on my Linux systems, I've always used the rpm that comes on my Mandrake CD's. It has always installed it in 'network server' mode. - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
