Loss of Signal To Monitor

Just Installed Red Hat 7 on a desktop system with an asus k7m mobo, ati
radeon 32 mb ddr video, and kds vs-195 monitor. install went fine, got
a graphical install no less...

but when i run

startx

or attempt to test video modes with Xconfigurator, i get a loss of
signal to the monitor and i can't ctrl-c, ctrl-d, ctrl-x, or alt-ctrl-
backspace/f1 back out to a command line...

help!
