how to get rid of color terminals on RH 7.x

I used to know, but now it eludes me...

I can I get rid of color mode in my xterms?

	'ls' was aliased (that was easy)

	man, top, etc... must be getting the color flag somehwere?

help?  (RH 7.0 in this case)
