I just made a tar file with symbolic links. When I un-tarred it the the links were preserved like in the original directory. What I'm saying is that I could not replicate the problem. What version of tar are you using? tar (GNU tar) 1.13.19 is what I tried. What are the permissions in the directories you are tarring / tarring into? Can you post the tar file? ~'`^`'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^`'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^`'~=-., \|/ (___) \|/ _,.-=~'`^` Brian Medley @~./'O o`\.~@ "Knowledge is Power" bmedley at mediaone.net /__( \___/ )__\ *PPPFFBT!* -- Francis Bacon `\__`U_/' _,.-=~'`^`'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^`'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^`'~= <____|' ^^`'~=-.,__,.-= ~`'^`'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^`'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^`'~=-.,__,.-==--^'~=-.,__,.-=~'`^` - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
