I think you may be better off hard coding the IP address of your mail server and just using DHCP for the laptop and whatever other machines you will have. I have a linksys cable router as well as the tzo service and I'm running a web/mail server behind the router. I also have a couple of workstations and laptops that take advantage of DHCP. All you have to do is give your server an IP out of the DHCP range configured in your router and give it a gateway setting configured to your router address as well as enter in the DNS information that can be obtained via DHCP. Once this is done, your IP for the server behind the firewall will stay the same. The laptop then won't be able to grab the IP address of your server if your server happens to reboot or shut down. Also, you can now just edit your other machines hosts file to associate your server's static IP with the host name you want it to have. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Duane Morin" <dmorin at morinfamily.com> To: <discuss at Blu.Org> Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2001 10:12 PM Subject: dynamic dns at home? > Ok, I'm happily up and running with my cable modem and the tzo service > (thanks to the list!)
