undefined symbol: stat

Hey All,
I'm trying to write a shared library, but i'm running to a problem. At 
run-time the library dies from an 'undefined symbol: stat'. I'm running this 
on a RH7.1 machine. I have tried running it on a debian system, and the library
runs fine. What on the RH system could prevent this from running, any ideas?
