IIRC, you need to run a recent 2.4 kernel. 2.2 kernels only support 16-bit UIDs, but I believe the 2.4 series supports larger UIDs. You might also have a problem with NIS, but I can't speak to that. Haven't tried it. I have successfully added a local user with a large UID to at least one of my RH 7.1 systems (running I believe RH's 2.4.3 kernel at the time) not too long ago. -- --------------------------------------------------- Derek Martin | Unix/Linux geek ddm at pizzashack.org | GnuPG Key ID: 0x81CFE75D Retrieve my public key at http://pgp.mit.edu - Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" on the first line of the message body to discuss-request at blu.org (Subject line is ignored).
