Upgrading libstdc++

I'm trying to install libstdc++-2.95.2-12mdk.i586.rpm in order to
satisfy a libarts2-2.2-0.beta1.1mdk.i586.rpm KDE dependency for KDE 2.2.1.

However, my machine balks saying that the install would conflict with
the already present libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 which itself is just a
symbolic link to libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3. I've tried using the -U
option for the new package, but I get the same error.

At this point, I'd rather not force anything. Is there a graceful way to
get out of this problem?

Steve
