| Now you are getting into religion. Like the VI and EMACS religion, the | shells are also religion among UNIX people. Yeah, and my original question seems to have been lost in the usual fashion. Recall that I asked whether anyone knew why | > | make test >& test.log & produces no test.log output file, although the make seems to run ok. Changing the '.' to '_' makes it work correctly. This seems to happen with tcsh on a number of different linux releases, but it doesn't happen with tcsh on the couple of FreeBSD systems where I have accounts.
