Renumbering UIDs and GIDs?

Thanks to all.  

Now I just need to decide on a coherent numbering scheme, plan out
what should go where, and then accurately apply my plan to
/etc/passwd, /etc/group, and all the files on the box.


-kb, the Kent who will wait until his most recent repair of some
confused UIDs and GIDs proves itself before embarking on a big
renumbering.
