kernel rebuild - problem - RH 7.3

Check your kernel .config file from your build. I haven't troubleshooted a kernel problem in a while, but my guess is you have incorrect options in there.

Some suggestions are:
1) Review your kernel config
2) As a test, rebuild the kernel using NO MODULES. You could perhaps be loading something as a module, which should not be (like say IDE support).

Alternatively, you could try building your kernel module by itself, and then insmod it into your working (Red Hat) kernel. I'm surprised you even needed to build anything for a new mouse on a RH7.3 box.

Cheers,
-Scott

Subject: kernel rebuild - problem - RH 7.3

Hi ,
I just rebuilt my kernel to add support for my optical mouse. But on
trying to boot into this new kernel the systems hangs on mounting root
file system and then gives a message :

Freeing unused kernel memory: 248k freed

can any one suggest any possible reason for this.

regards
Anand
