Hi Scott, Copy the whole oracle to /tmp and then install from the /tmp If it doesn't work, then type the following before start to install the oracle LD_ASSUME_KENNEL=2.2.5 Good Lucky -- PL Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 15:46:49 -0400 From: Scott Lanning <slanning at theworld.com> To: discuss at blu.org Subject: oracle on linux Hi, I'm trying to install Oracle8i (8.1.6) on Red Hat 7.3. (It came on a CD with a book, "Oracle8i for Linux Starter Kit".) After setting up groups, user oracle, environment variables, everything in the book, I try to run the so-called "Universal" installer (grumble), and it hangs: [oracle at localhost oracle]$ cd /mnt/cdrom/ [oracle at localhost cdrom]$ ./runInstaller [oracle at localhost cdrom]$ Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait... At this point, I wait like 10 minutes and nothing happens, but apparently the jre started: Output of top: 3:10pm up 1:26, 3 users, load average: 0.99, 0.71, 0.33 58 processes: 54 sleeping, 4 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU states: 13.8% user, 86.1% system, 0.0% nice, 0.0% idle Mem: 376524K av, 261752K used, 114772K free, 0K shrd, 21384K buff Swap: 779112K av, 0K used, 779112K free 174052K cached PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND 3727 oracle 25 0 3012 2176 860 R 98.0 0.5 5:16 jre 3412 root 15 0 137M 9028 2924 R 0.7 2.3 0:03 X 3850 root 15 0 1032 1032 836 R 0.7 0.2 0:00 top 3436 oracle 15 0 3444 3444 2072 S 0.3 0.9 0:00 sawfish [snip] (I run sawfish. Do you think that is the problem?? Hmm, does sawfish support "Motif 1.2"?) My glibc version is 2.2, and Oracle requires linking with 2.1.3, but I downloaded a patch (stub 2.1.3 bindings), and it says to just install as normal but don't add a database during the install and then apply the patch. Any suggestions?
