Christian, You might be right, but I don't think that would help the employment situation. In a union, people are promoted based on seniority and not skills. I strongly suggest you work as a system admin or as an software engineer in a union shop. Many IT people are already unionized in some areas. I once interviewed a guy from Cummins Diesel, where the computer operators are unionized. But, as companies continue to exploit IT people, they will get the unions they deserve.
