I try to install the following kernel: rpm > -ivh kernel-2.4.20-18.7.i686.rpm and got the following > error message: ... > > I use Redhat 7.1 Ah, another Luddite like me :-) I went through this same process a few weeks ago (in order to get my new wireless card working), and found the easiest thing was to use the Red Hat network: # up2date -d kernel It takes a while, especially with the "free" subscription, but "up2date" will work out the relevant dependencies and pull down everything (it will also install it all for you if you omit "-d", but I wanted the RPMs around in case something went wrong).
