Has anyone tried to build RAID 1 arrays (mirror) with /dev/shm? This should get you at least the read speed of a RAM disk, while maintaining integrity during the occasional reboot / trip the power cord event. Write may be relatively fast as well as the two halfs are synced 'block by block'. And as another disk reliability tool: 'smartmontools' allows you to read the 'SMART' information on your disk. Very nifty to discover disks that are about to go. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Johannes Ullrich jullrich at euclidian.com pgp key: http://johannes.homepc.org/PGPKEYS -------------------------------------------------------------- "We regret to inform you that we do not enable any of the security functions within the routers that we install." support at covad.net --------------------------------------------------------------
